Meet Jody and Turner - the Tadpoles

Yesterday a friend of ours brought over these 2 little tadpoles for the boys. This morning, first thing, (seriously, I even had to remind them to have breakfast and get dressed!) they were begging me to let them go down to the pond to look for pond plants and such to make up a little habitat for them.

I wanted to get some pictures so I grabbed my camera, put the baby in the buggy and armed with bucket and net we went to see what we could see.

And, boy, did we see...

We caught minnows, leeches, snails and all sorts of tiny creatures!

It was all great until Marcus discovered a leech on his leg already bright red with his blood! I got a picture but couldn't bare to put in on here... it was so gross!

Back at home we looked up on the internet about leeches and minnows and discovered that leeches eat tadpoles! That just wouldn't do so the boys enjoyed flushing them down the toilet after watching them for a couple hours swimming around in their crazy inch-wormy sort of way.

Then, they had a great old time putting together their habitat and reading up on tadpoles and frogs in books I got from the library earlier this week.

And now they're spending a great deal of their time watching their new "pets".

When asked why they named them Jody and Turner, their response was, "Just 'cause it's silly".

...Alright then! :)

Allan doesn't quite believe me when I say they will turn into frogs.

I guess he'll just have to wait and see!

I love this... homeschooling at it's best.
